How to Disable New Program Installed Message in Windows XP

If you are using Windows XP for some time, you must have noticed that a 'New Program Installed' bubble notification appears in the start menu whenever a new application is installed on your computer. This can get a bit annoying since you always know that a new program was installed because it was you who installed it. So here's a way to turn off this notification and the highlighting of the new applications.

  1. Right Click on the Start button. Select Properties from the menu that appears.
  2. The Properties Dialog Box appears. Make sure that Start Menu option is selected and click on Customize.
  3. Now click on the Advanced Tab. Uncheck Highlight newly installed programs option and click OK.
  4. That's it! The annoying bubble has been disabled and you can enjoy a clean start menu.
