Google Will Protect Users From Installing Unwanted Chrome Extensions

There is a feature in Google Chrome named 'Inline Install' that allows users to install extensions directly from a developer's website without any need to go to the Chrome Web Store. However some bad guys are tricking users into installing an unwanted extension by claiming to be offering a software update.

The Mountain View company is trying to stop this deceptive practice by blocking inline installation for extensions that abuse it.

This change will arrive on September 3, when Google Chrome will redirect users to the extension’s product details page in the Chrome Web Store, enabling the user to make an informed decision about whether to install. It is important to note that this change will affect only those extensions which adapt deceptive tactics to trick users into installing such extensions.
